I was delighted to attend the launch of PrudentialRideLondon a few weeks ago. It was great to meet one of the true stars of London 2012, Laura Trott... that smile is just as infectious in real life as it was on the TV coverage from the velodrome.

Laura is the ambassador for PrudentialRideLondon a super choice to raise the profile of the event, and cycling as a whole. It was a real pleasure to photograph Laura, along with Seb Coe and Boris Johnson. A selection of images appear below, and the full gallery from myself and Jonathan can be viewed here.

Olympic Torch

Torch Relay - Scottish leg

The olympic torch is touring the UK ahead of the 2012 games in London. I photographed it passing through the town of Bridge of Allan, just outside Stirling, on Wednesday 13 June.

Microsoft TV ad

I recently found out one of my images (below) has been used in the television ad for Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.

If you haven't seen the ad (and I'm not endorsing the product in anyway!) I've posted it to my tumble log, you can see it here - it's the London image @ 0.42secs.

Bank of Scotland poster

I was delighted to learn one of my images was used on a nationwide Christmas campaign for the Bank of Scotland. Whilst I’m very used to seeing my design work in print, its still a novel experience finding my photography in print. Particularly pleased about this one as my wife was the model! The poster was reproduced at A1 the image was licensed through Getty Images.

Delighted to have the image below shortlisted in the Take-a-view Landscape Photographer of the Year competition 2011. It’s my first ever time entering a major competition... and this one is widely regarded as the premier competition in the UK.

Bluebell wood

Scottish west coast

A little trip to the south west coast on Sunday... turned out to be a beautiful evening... left a time lapse running whilst I shot some stills... you can see me going about my business near the end. One and a half hours of stills, only gives 19secs of motion, so I included a few shots from my 5D to show both sides of what I did.

Digital Photo Magazine April 2011

I’m delighted to have 4 images published in the gallery section of the April 2011 issue of Digital Photo Magazine. The chosen images are actually two years old and were from a photo challenge group we had at work. The subject was “Rural Architecture” and I can remember this project as one of the defining moments that turned image making from a hobby into a passion.

West Coast

A trip to the west coast on Saturday afternoon... started of at Dunure, but could see the tide was going to be fully out at sunset, so headed on round the coast. I normally prefer the tide to be in a bit when I’m taking photos, however the reflections of the broken clouds in the wet sand looked quite appealing... as far as sunsets go, it was brief with only a little bit of colour on the horizon.

First shot is uploaded to flickr if you would like to see a larger preview (and I really must get my redbubble/imagekind sites up to date (in the off chance anyone would actually like to purchase something ;-) ).

Blackness Castle

Really starting to feel like spring now, and such a pleasant change to have blue skies in Scotland again! Stopped by Blackness castle on the Forth estuary, and caught the very last of the sun hitting the castle, before it dropped below the horizon. Near full moon was just to the right, but walking out on the mudflats was a bit treacherous.

This is definitely not my best ever shot, but it is a very meaningful one... this is the first shot I’ve taken after work since about October! Finally the days are getting a bit longer, and the light is still good by the time I get home. I could see the sky was looking promising on the drive home, but couldn’t get myself to the greatest of locations... however its a start, and hopefully more to come ;-)

Spring in Scotland?

Spent Sunday on the Tweedsmuir Hills in the Scottish Borders, around Talla reservoir, Talla Linnfoots and Meggat reservoir. One of the first sightings of blue sky for a very long time, and possibly the last of the snow?

Some signs of spring? I’ve been trying to do a shot like this since the snowdrops first bloomed in Feb, but just couldn’t get the light I wanted... until last night! And now... they’re under snow... brrr!

Longing for summer

January and February are always tough months for outdoor photography in Scotland... unless there is significant snowfall the landscape can look a bit drab. By the end of Feb I’m always longing for sunnier days... so much so I’ve been looking back over shots from last summer and reminding myself what the sun looked like!

These shots are all from a fun day at the beach, I kinda forgot I had them. They’re all shot with my longer lens directly into the low sun to get some deliberate flare and light leakage...

Photo Pro Magazine

Photo Pro magazine asked me to contribute to an article on the virtues of watermarking images online... I had some images used without my consent before Christmas and was more than happy to help. The magazine is out now, and the article contains the experiences of a few photographers who do watermark, and some who refuse to... it’s obviously a topic capable of stimulating much debate.

Digital Photo front cover and feature

I’m really delighted to have some images published on the front cover and main article of this months Digital Photo magazine.

According to ABC Magazine Circulation Digital Photo is no1 in the market in the UK with circulation of 60,792 (ABC, Jan-Dec 2009) and an average issue readership of 398,000 (NRS, Oct 08-Sep 09)... so I really am honoured to feature.

Another year means another calendar. I do these every year for family members (and myself). I try to shoot a calendar image every month through-out the year, and usually have lots to choose from... it certainly helps when you have two great models.
